Yesterday, I assembled the gingerbread house Nina got for the kids and I to do. I decorated the front, and then the kids helped me do the sides and back. They were SO into it. I made "dots" of icing on the roof, and showed them how to stick a candy on the "dot." They grasped the concept immediately, and were faster at sticking their candies than I was making the dots. Jonathan was especially into the project. He loves a clearly defined task, and was an old pro at decorating the gingerbread house. Faith was very excited about it as well, but didn't get as much practice because Jonathan was working at a slightly faster pace and kept taking her dots. So, while Jonathan worked on the roof, Faith concentrated on the bottom of the house, lining the walls with gumdrops. I did not alter their placement of the candies, except where they weren't quite sticking to the icing. I think they did a pretty good job!
Thanks for a fun project Nina!

Ha, ha, ha...this post is goin' straight to Brook because he said it was too old for our kids to do! I wanted to buy one of the gingerbread house kits at Trader Joe's while we are in Portland for the boys and Brook said NO WAY! So, thanks for providing me with the back-up that I needed!
Great job, F & J!! That's impressive!
wow, they did a great job, it looks fantastic!
That's awesome, they did great!
Great job kids!!! I'll bet in May, you'll be able to decorate eachother's birthday cakes. Remind me on day to tell you the story of when Nina and I took cake decorating classes. It was a hoot!
Love you guys so much!
You must have gotten a higher quality gingerbread-house-making-kit then us ... or else you're kids are naturals at the decorating thing .... because our gingerbread house looks NOTHING like yours. Really!
the kids did a great job. so proud of them!
Oh my goodness, that looks TOTALLY PROFESSIONAL!!!! What a great idea! I love "clearly defined task." I, too, enjoy a clearly defined task. Very Type A, I think.
Thanks for your nice comment about our Christmas card, you totally made my day!!
Miss you!
oh my gosh, that is precious.
I did not even consider having the twins involved in the gingerbread activity. shame on me! they are such good listeners and would have LOVED it!
So cute! Now I want to get one for my kids to do!
I am going to add my "I am so impressed" to the other commenters. I would never have considered this one. I think I will have to put it on the agenda for next year. You go Mom!!!!
