Sometimes it Takes a Friend

Sometimes it takes a phone call to a friend to provide you with a little bit of perspective.

Today was a real "Monday." Jay is out of town, and Faith and Jonathan had a very difficult night sleeping. Between 7:30pm at 8:00am, they were up a combined total of 8 times. I think. I lost count around 5:00 am, when Faith decided to poop since she was awake, and I was doing diaper duty with bleary eyes. The last wake-up was right before 7. I decided to cut my loses and stay up for the day. I climbed into the tub because I was too tired to shower, and ended up taking a nap in the tub!

After breakfast I left F and J to go visit a wonderful lady I knew from my Bible study group last year. She is dying of cancer, and is in a hospice house. That was harder than I expected. When I arrived, her husband was playing home movies of her bridal shower, dress fittings and of their son.

I arrived home to a very needy Jonathan. Was very happy to get the kids fed and down for naps. Post nap, Jonathan was having major diaper issues. I think he had 8 bouts of diarrhea today, and his little bum is flaming red and he is in agony when I change him. Suggestions are welcomed! He has a cold, is on pedialyte, balmex, baby powder, motrin and tylenol and a friend recommended baking soda. The poor little guy is in real pain. We may be making a trip to the doctor's tomorrow, although they are schedule to have their 18 month check-up on Thursday. Am I correct in thinking he won't be able to get his shots if is he/has been sick recently?

Bedtime was a little harder without Jay here, but I did enjoy rocking them both and them actually staying on my lap for their books. I moved Faith's crib, thinking that maybe the moonlight/street lights are bothering her. She was up 15 minutes after I laid her down. The binky was on the floor, and I could tell she tried to retrieve it, because her blanket was on the ground also. I am not sure why she thinks she can get the pacifier with her blanket, but that is what she tries to do. Fix her up, go back down stairs. 30 minutes later, Jonathan is screaming. I ignored him for about 10 minutes, thinking that maybe he would put himself back to sleep. He doesn't, so I go up. Of course the poor kid had another bad diaper, and was in pain. I haven't heard from anyone in almost 2.5 hours, so I am hopeful for my night of rest!

Anyway, back to the point of this. I was talking to a friend and telling her about my day when she piped up and said that she just had to take her dog to the vet, and the dog puked in her car. And in the puke, was the poop her dog had eaten. Yep, poopy puke, in HER CAR! Can I just say my day suddenly seemed not so hard!? Sometimes another person's trials can de-emphasize a hard day.

Have any hard day stories to tell me about? :)

Oh man! My dog-puking-poop story was actually in my house, not in the car. I think the car is worse. Ah, the joys of pet ownership.

No tough stories to share this week (said with fingers crossed), but I find it much harder emotionally to deal with the curveballs of life when Jon is gone. Hugs to you.

I must have talked to the same friend right after you did. What an awful mess!
Sorry J is in so much pain. I dont have any good suggestions for you, sounds like youve already tried everything! Have you let him go bare-bottomed for a little while?

Oh, how hard it is when they aren't feeling well. I hope all of you get healthy soon. Now that's tired when you fall asleep in the bathtub. I just took Tyler and Julie to get their flu shots and they told me only if they had a fever, Julie just had runny nose and she was able to get hers.

nothing as bad as poopy puke, ewwww
but this is the third day in a row Toby has refused to nap, I have no idea what to do with him. I make him stay up there for a couple hours, he is just playing and laughing. Hope Jonathan is feeling better soon

My daughter gets diaper rash easily and it takes forever to clear up. Here are two things we have found that work well, I switch back and forth between the two.

1. Bordeaux's Butt Paste...it really is some good stuff.

2. Bag Balm (in a green tin) cake it on and put corn starch over top of that. This is the combo we use most often. The Bag Balm is thick and really protects the skin. The corn starch helps keep everything dry (I think) and makes great gravy.

But not when used for diaper rash.

I hope maybe one of those helps!

a and o have TERRIBLE diaper rash when they have diarrhea, too. it's almost like the poop is toxic, even if it stays on their skin for a mere 2 minutes. our doctor gave us dr. smith's cream to try and it worked amazing wonders. this stuff is a miracle worker. it cleared up ozzy's flaming red tush overnight. unfortunately it runs about $13 a tube. but we save it for the tough times and it really is a miracle. here's hoping j is feeling better real soon and that the other j comes home real soon!

Hey Krissy~
Glad to know that Jay is doing well:)

As for crazy day stories... most of mine are from days gone by (like when my kids were your kids ages:) ). I'm sure Megan has told you a few but I'll pick a favorite or two.

One day the kids are all playing nicely and Tim calls me downstairs for something. I run down there and a short time later he and I both smell a HORRID STENCH. We have no idea what it is, but know it isn't good and as we race upstairs the smell gets worse. What was it you may ask?? In record time, my trips had managed to somehow poke a hole in a can of sardines. Going along with the record time thing, they speedily managed to dump every last drop of liquid in there ALL OVER EVERYTHING in the kitchen and dining room:) LOVELY. FOREVER THAT STENCH LASTED!! Oh but the good part was, Tim hasn't left his coat out so much since then.... (he had left it on the dining room chair prior to the incident and it got "sardined")

#2 I walk in the nursery smelling and seeing a horrifying sight. POOP EVERYWHERE! One child sleeping quietly with poop chunks all around him and the each child and their crib along with accessible walls, covered in poop. Yes, apparently there was a poop pelting contest during naptime! Chunks of poop and poop smears everwhere.

Then there was the insulation project but I'll save that for another day.

Just know, that I am actually laughing to myself, as I sit here BY MYSELF, uninterrupted, typing this. (there was no laughing about those events when they occured, just pure frustration). These days do end. I must say that, there are parts of that craziness that I really miss. Its not that I long to be scrubbing everything my boys have dumped or thrown or smeared some stenchy liquid or bodily excretion on, but I do miss that age and stage of life. :) As my mother told me MANY times during those days... "This too shall pass!" (just never thought I'd miss it!)

Have a good day.
