Food For Toddlers

I spent a lot of time in perusing the grocery store aisles the other day, looking for a wider variety of items to feed my growing toddlers. Everyone has a different philosophy in regard to feeding their family, and I would say my personal tendencies run right down the middle. With that disclaimer, here are some ideas for your grocery list:

fruit (bananas, strawberries, kiwi, watermelon)

vegetables (sweet potatoes, avocados, zucchini, broccoli, squash)

dairy (string cheese, yogurt, pudding, eggs, milk)

frozen (vegetable stuffed ravioli, pierogies, waffles, vegetables)

snacks (whole wheat pretzels, whole wheat fig newtons, whole wheat goldfish)

dry goods (whole wheat gnocchi, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat mac & cheese, pancake mix, rice, couscous)

protein (meat filled ravioli, chicken, turkey hot dogs)

canned (black beans, Mandarin oranges, carrots, sweet potatoes)

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and having two little people to cook for has become a good motivator to make nutritious food for the whole family. My favorite types of foods are ones that all four of us will enjoy. This carrot casserole my mom makes is a great example of this!

Granny's Carrot Casserole:

3 1/2 C cooked carrots
5 eggs
1/4 C raw sugar
1/4 C butter
3T whole wheat flour
1 1/4 C milk
2-3 t. cinnamon
1 1/2 T baking powder

Put all ingredients in blender and mix. Pour in to casserole dish. Bake 350* 30 minutes or until crusted brown. Can be made the day before and refridgerated.

Yummy!

Lovely recipe! Can't wait to try this. I'm guessing my non-carrot eater will even like it, but who knows?

Meatballs are still one of my favorites to make for my girls. Or, lately, buy ... not the healthiest that way but certainly easy and successful.

Thanks for your comment on my blog and for delurking. I do not hold you personally responsible for my feelings no matter how long you stay gone. We all have to take breaks. Including me.

Happy week!

One of my twin girl's favorites is rollups of fresh turkey and cheese. I cut (or tear) the rollup in to little pieces and they gobble it up.
